Rockin Reviews – Lick and a Promise Diary of a Rockstar Groupie
Good morning folks. Welcome to another rockin review! I mean, why wouldn’t I read this book? It’s about things I, the rockstar bassist, can relate to: Rock music, groupies, music, sex, and drugs. *laughs* Oh and alcohol! Yes that too! The cover is lovely. A hot looking man, a woman kneeling and hanging on to him and a pretty guitar! NICE!
Let me start off by saying, I ended up liking the book but at first, it started off kind of slow. Geez. The main character Poppy Bleu introducing you to a cast of characters, wayward mother, crazy aunt, the wanna be musicians she meets in the beginning, *yawns* I have to admit, I was bored for a bit. I totally forgot what this story was. A diary… yes that meant it was going to read like that, a diary but then about half way through the story picked up. Poppy got into lots of trouble, doing drugs, marrying the rock star she didn’t want then almost dying in the story. She was on a ride and taking us with her. It became interesting once again. A story of a groupie going through unfortunate times, getting fucked, becoming a name, getting high and finally having a chance at love.
Yep, it ended up being a really good story but not great. I wanted to hear more about “her rock star” as she called him. All we knew about him was the band he was in, the fact he was sort of a sex addict, and was trying to get clean from drugs towards the end. I really liked him and wanted to connect with him more but I suppose by this being a diary, I could only connect with Poppy.
Oh by the way, there are several references to actual bands. Wonder what THAT means? *raises an eyebrow*
All in all, a pretty good book. I give it 3.5 horns. An extra 1/2 for the magnificent cover! \m/ \m/ \m/ \m
During the era of Classic Rock, Poppy Bishop was a teenage runaway. At 18, she was in bed with the lead guitarist of one of the biggest bands in rock history. She went on to become Poppy Bleu, a “famous” groupie who bedded rock stars, their wives (and girlfriends) and became a junkie by the time she was 21. However, she never forgot her first rock star…and he never forgot her.
For over 20 years, Poppy Bleu was known in the rock and roll world as the best backstage lay and liked, loved and hated by some of the world’s biggest rock stars. Her story is one of sex, drugs, and rock and roll and how she went from groupie to junkie to author and became the love of a lead guitarist’s life who saved her from a life of ruin.
Veronica Moreau is the pen name of author Lisa V. Proulx
